Providing performance feedback that encourages growth and success begins by documenting a worker's performance in specific behavioral terms.

Many managers and supervisors struggle with how to capture usable, realistic and legal information about their employees. Faced with uncertainty and concerned about legal issues, managers often opt to document nothing. This information gap is often viewed by employees as a lack of interest in their accomplishments or performance.

There is a strong link between the manager's ability to recognize and document an employee's performance and the employee's growth and success.
